Rain Drops Keep Falling Down

Well, it rains all day long.
Moreover, the weather forecast calls rain every day this week. It seems no end to it.
So, unfortunately no flying now.

Baker Hotsprings

I guess it's more than 20 years ago.
So,
Once upon a time......
I led an ACC ski trip to Mt. Baker in May long weekend.
For us, Canadians, the standard route is Colemann Glacier route.
On that trip I wanted differently. I chose Easton, south side of the mountain.
After the climb, we went to this wilderness hotsprings.
Today, I was so glad to see the pool with nature's gift, still intact.

Sooke Basin

Destination of this past weekend:
Sooke Basin.
The more I look, the more I realize it must be a good kayaking location.
Even though I thought a strange combination, I noticed a kayak rental sign, besides the Stone Pipe Restaurant where we dined Saturday evening.
There were only a few boats moored in the bay. They had no light shining; and I guessed there were nobody onboard.

Last Trip of See by Cycle

I rode Bike Friday from the Birch to Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal, approx. 50 km. I started off at 06:00 in the dark. These days the sunrise is late around 07:00. So one hour of night riding since the last winter.
I guess, I hadn't adjusted to a cautious riding in the dark; I had a spill, minor though; at least knee scrape.
There were 4 of us, when we started at Swaltz Bay. At Victoria Junction the couple left for a day trip.
So, Chris and I continued another 40 km to Sooke, where we stayed at his favourite B & B on Harbourview Dr.
Suday's ride was the same route, Gallopping Goose and then Lochside to Swaltz Bay. We were always pressed to take 14:00 Ferry.
After I checked in, I learnt there was no more 14:00 one.
I was prisoned in the waiting room for 1.5 hours, as I was a pedestrian, carrying a foldable bike in a bag.
Chris was lucky. He could get out to visit the Stone House Pub for a pint.

When the Sun was Shining

We are in the beginning stage of rainy season.
So, to cheer us up, I've posted this nice day scene of the last summer.

Attitude Indicator

One month old attitude indicator failed.
So, an aircraft maintenance nightmare continues, as the mechanic is now hospitalized.

a0025444_1191149.jpgThe open hours on the sign were odd to me; open till 3:30. So early closure.
Still I had 30 minutes to spare.
Inside, I was told the kitchen closed 30 minutes before.
So, no hot meal!?
My light breakfast kept going till then, 8 hours!!! My blood sugar must be low!
Yet, the proprietor was kind of nice and suggested soup and sandwiches, saying, "We don't let people go hungry."

Two Time Pieces

When the battery of two wrist watches are worn down, what has to be done?

a0025444_132494.jpg

Carry them both on your arm and search for a place where an almost extinct watch repairman can be found.
After some looking around, I've found a tiny jewery shop that was hidden by the huge major supermarket. There a technician could gingerly fixed my watches at the cost of $10, whereas the Bay had asked me to leave them for a few days with minimum of $25!

This photo was taken inside GUS.
Now I know carrying more than one watch is not a bad idea on aviation where standard, local and UTC (Universal Time Coordinated?, formerly called Greenich) coexist.

It reminds of my epic trip from Springbank to Abbotsford in April.
Before the launch, I worried the time change between Alberta and British Columbia. My trutsty flight instructor, Doris told me to use UTC; superb idea! This way, no more fiddling around with time change.
This was a great bonus in thinking while flying. I've found my brain power for nitty gritty things is radically reduced in an aircraft. I tend to leave my non-aviation items whichever airport I visit.
